We have an alarm system for several reasons: we live in the country on a lake, not in an urban or suburb location; emergency response personnel are not very close; most of our neighbors are weekend folks, not around during the week; we wanted the security of knowing that our home was monitored for break-ins or fire while we were either away or asleep at night.
